Lots of Lessons Learned at the 2009 ELC

Leaders and staff from the National Kidney Foundation's Divisions, Affiliates and programs recently congregated for the 2009 Executive Leadership Conference. Over 160 came in from all parts of the country to attend the ELC from February 4-6 in the heart of New York City, at the Roosevelt Hotel.

With various presentations, breakout groups and discussions, participants brainstormed and communicated ideas on how to enhance communication, fundraising, program development and implementation and more. Co-chairs of the KDIGO organization, Kai-Uwe Eckardt, MD and Bert Kasiske, MD, spoke at a lunch about current and future global initiatives, including the upcoming release of a guideline on the care of the kidney transplant patient. NKF President Dr. Bryan Becker talked about the significance of these global activities and urged Affiliates and Divisions to use this information locally and connect it to their activities.

CEO John Davis also presented an in-depth look at the new NKF initiative End the Wait! on Thursday, February 5, 2009. This groundbreaking initiative is a comprehensive, multifaceted "roadmap" to solve the urgent issues of the current organ shortage and the nationwide waiting list, which recently topped 100,000.

TRANSFORMING THE NKF: Strategic Plan 2007-2010

(Adopted April 14, 2007)

The purpose of the strategic plan for the National Kidney Foundation is to enable us to improve outcomes for people with kidney disease and to make us better able to reach the at-risk population. That is the ultimate purpose in all NKF activities, new or traditional.

This specific title, Transforming the NKF, was chosen to indicate that the Plan contains only the major new elements of NKF's work. This inclusion of only major new elements in no way indicates that the Foundation will lessen our commitment to traditional NKF programs and activities. They will continue and will grow. more information Download
