Ohio & Kentucky - Kentucky Region Office

Marketing Intern

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Serving Ohio & Kentucky is a non-profit organization located in downtown Louisville. The NKF is a major voluntary non-profit health organization and is dedicated to preventing kidney and urinary tract diseases, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases. We also are strong advocates for all organ transplantation and part of our mission is to decrease the wait for these transplants. Through our affiliates nationwide, the NKF conducts extensive public and professional education aimed at promoting early detection and improving patient care.

We have many events and opportunities which will allow interns the ability to get involved just as a staff member. We are low staffed, so interns will get a full range of experience. Working in the non-profit arena allows individuals experience with creativity and brainstorming to implement well-rounded ideas with a low budget. Will accept any class level, but do require a 2.75 GPA.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

Projects

  • Media Collateral - Intern will be responsible for all social media and website updates, POP distribution, media relations, revision of contact database, etc.
  • Event Promotions - The NKF has many events in which we do most of the promotions, media collateral, recruitment, etc. Intern will be responsible for designing and executing publications for these events.
  • NKF regional newsletter

Duties

  • Work directly with website manager to update website
  • Update, re-design, and publish all in-house brochures
  • Distribution of marketing materials to local areas (POP, targeted areas, etc.)
  • Media relations and creative outlets for marketing/media

Beginning as soon as possible. We would prefer long-term internships (minimum one semester).

We are a non-profit, therefore are not able to compensate for wages.

Event Management Intern

  • Events - Intern will be a vital point person to at least one event (depending on when internship is). He/She will contribute to all aspects of the event from event logistics, recruiting additional sponsorships, marketing and promotions, media collateral, PR, etc.

  • Flexible. (12 to 16 hours per week unless specified otherwise by University requirements / advisor.)

2-3 positions available for each semester, Spring, Summer, and Fall Semester Placement.

These are unpaid internships. Travel to the Division Office will be required on occasion. Pennsylvania resident students with work study may qualify for additional funding.

Texas

Job Title: Programming Intern

Summary:

Responsible for assisting the NKF Serving Texas Programming Department with its marketing, communication, and executing efforts in promoting community programs provided by NKF to the local public.

Prinicipal Duties:

  1. Managing database, letters and emails, making phone calls.
  2. Assist with the marketing, advertising, planning efforts for the Foundation's key programs, including Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP) Screenings, Kidney Health Risk Assessments (KHRA), and Health Fairs.
  3. Perform additional activities as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

College Student with related major. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Competent typing/computer skills. Ability to work as a part of a team. Experience with program services a plus.

Contributions from NKF:

Interns of the National Kidney Foundation Serving Texas will gain marketable work experience and hone skills related to nonprofit and other fields, including organization structuring, time management, timeline management, and community interaction.

Hours:

Flexible- 12 to 20 hours per week unless specified otherwise by University requirements/advisor

This is an unpaid internship with transportation reimbursement.

Length of internship to be based on academic semester, about 3 to 4 months.

Virginia

Special Events Intern

SUMMARY: The National Kidney Foundation Serving Virginia announces the availability of an exciting Internship in our Richmond office running from available start date through August 2012. This internship offers a flexible schedule for a term of up to one year with the ability to fit your educational needs and earn credits.

NKF seeks a highly motivated, self-starting student who is passionate about public service. Intern will provide support to NKF staff and gain valuable skills while assisting with event planning, corporate research and volunteer outreach for the NKF throughout Virginia. If your degree program requires that you do an internship, this can be used as course credit.

This internship will provide the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas including:

FUNDRAISING & EVENT PLANNING

  • Assist with planning & implementation of special events along with pre- and post- events
  • Assist with donor tracking and follow-up both in recruitment and registration of companies, teams and individuals
  • Draft letters, mail out and follow-up to prospective sponsors, in-kind donors and guests
  • Design and prepare event materials and communications including newsletters, email blasts, phone calls, etc.

    • MARKETING

  • Researching charitable programs of major local corporations
  • Assisting with implementation of marketing strategies
  • Project development and management
  • Strategic planning of brochure distribution
  • Street team recruitment and management
  • Research and data entry projects

    • REQUIREMENTS

    • Time commitment of 10-15 hours a week
    • Must currently reside in the Greater Richmond Area
    • Must have reliable transportation
    • Excellent interpersonal communications skills
    • Excellent writing and research skills
    • Ability to see the "big picture" and assist with all aspects of events and programs.
    • Ability to work independently, prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously
    • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student preferred
    • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Internet and e-mail
    • Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, and other social media outlets
    • Proficiency in database management and design of spreadsheets
    • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
    • Superior academic record
    • No experience necessary, but attention to detail and accountability required

    Two positions are available at this time. This position does include a stipend. Positions open until filled.
