There are five corporations that have traditionally provided dialysis services to over 70 percent of the dialysis patients in affected areas. Additionally, the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network 13 can assist patients in locating an available facility for dialysis and necessary items such as transportation for dialysis, dialysis supplies, and renal medications.

The ESRD Network of New England is a non-profit corporation which serves as the Medicare contractor for the New England States of:

Network 1 is funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), formerly the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). Genzyme has partnered with many of the Medicare-approved Drug Discount Cards to offer the Renagel REACH ProgramSM.
This program provides Renagel at a special discount—$5 or $25 per monthly prescription, depending on income level. With this new program, patients don’t have to wait for the Medicare Prescription Drug legislation to take effect in 2006 – they can access Renagel today.

An Interagency Taskforce on Influenza Preparedness is being formed by the New York State Disaster Preparedness Commission (as of April 3, 2006) . The Taskforce will delineate agency roles and responsibilities to implement the State’s Pandemic Influenza Plan and ensure each agency has a plan for continuity of operations during a pandemic.

The Ochsner Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Programs are open. Patients are urged to call 504 842-3441 for clinic appointments and to update their contact information. They are currently seeing patients at Mid-City in Baton Rouge and at the Ochsner Clinic main campus in Jefferson Parish. New patients are welcome.
