Questions about kidney disease? Risk factors? Signs and symptoms? Are you concerned about yourself, a friend or family member? Ask Dr. Spry.
As the holidays approach, it’s easy to forget that soon it will be the tax man, not Santa, knocking at your door. Instead of wrapping paper and ribbons, you’ll be knee-deep in receipts and calculator tape. So this year, why not extend the season’s joy of giving while preparing for April 15? Donate your car to the National Kidney Foundation’s Kidney Cars Program. You’ll not only help millions of Americans suffering from kidney disease, you might also qualify for a tax deduction — a welcome year-end break from holiday shopping and spending.
Donating is easy. All you need to do is call 1-800-488-CARS (2277) or visit www.kidneycars.org and the National Kidney Foundation will mail out a packet, complete with a self-addressed envelope in which to mail back the signed title and odometer statement. Once the completed packet is received, the Foundation will contact the donor to arrange for a free pick-up. Detailed receipts, including the price for which the car sold, are provided for tax purposes. Vehicles are sold either at auction or for parts, with nearly 70% of the proceeds supporting the work of the National Kidney Foundation through programs in early detection, education, organ donation and patient services and advocacy. The proceeds from one car can actually help fund free early detection screenings for three people at risk for kidney disease.
