He Donated His Car And Got the Drive of His Life

Richard Cloward wasn't expecting anything special when he donated his 1991 Chevy one ton truck to the National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Cars Program. In fact, this was his fourth vehicle donation to NKF, and he was looking forward to nothing more than a nice tax write-off.

So naturally, the West Jordan, Utah resident was shocked and delighted, when he won the Grand Prize in the NKF Kidney Cars 25th Anniversary Sweepstakes: an all-expense paid, four-day and three-night weekend stay at the famous Pebble Beach Resort in California, plus a chance to win $25,000.

"The National Kidney Foundation does good work and I am always glad to help out," Cloward said of his donation. "I have donated vehicles before, but I had no idea it would lead to this."

He, his wife Sharon and two guests spent the weekend of January 17th in Pebble Beach. "I never dreamed I'd win and have a chance to spend time in the Monterey area in such a beautiful place," he said. "I'm very grateful."

Cloward was selected from more than 10,000 qualified entries from every state. As Chad Iseman, Kidney Cars Program Director, explains, "The 25th Anniversary Sweepstakes was designed to call attention to Kidney Cars and also to reward our generous donors, many of whom have supported us, like Richard Cloward, with multiple donations over the years."

In 25 years, the NKF Kidney Cars program has raised over $160 million dollars to support NKF's public education, early detection, research and advocacy programs in support of the 26 million Americans with chronic kidney disease and their families. To donate your car click here.
