Session 620
Target Audience:

Course Description:
Whether you are new to nephrology or a seasoned advanced practitioner (AP), Nephrology 201 has talks to meet the AP professional needs. The program will begin with talks that are fundamental to the practice of nephrology from the unique perspective of the AP and then later divide into two tracks which represent the most common sites of the nephrology AP practice: the acute care and chronic settings.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: Evaluate the common causes of electrolyte disturbances in the chronic kidney disease patient population; discuss the role of glomerulonephropathies in multisystem disorders; recognize the hidden dangers in pharmacology as it relates to the CKD/ESRD patient; identify and discuss the treatment of primary care issues in the nephrology patient; describe the epidemiology and pathophysiology of bone mineral disease in the CKD/ESRD patient and the role of biophosphonate therapy in this population; recognize the conditions and disorders under which fluid resuscitation is necessary and which fluid choice is best; describe what patient conditions require rapid response intervention and the AP role; describe common issues that arise in the dialysis unit and their interventions; Evaluate HD/PD treatment plans and under which circumstances adjustments are needed; and discuss the basic principles of kidney transplantation and transplant medications and complications.
