Advanced Practice in Renal Nutrition: Update 2013 (Strategies II)

Designed for seasoned dietitians.

Course Description:
This course is designed to 1) integrate new research into clinical practice; 2) foster critical thinking strategies to improve nutrition status of patients with chronic kidney disease, and 3) promote interactive learning that will result in changes in practice which ultimately will improve patient outcomes.  This will be achieved by integrating research with clinical practice. Topics for presentation and discussion include: obesity as a risk factor for CKD, PEW and Sarcopenia in CKD patients who are Obese, Waist Circumference and BMI as predictors for Mortality in patients with CKD, Wound healing in Obese CKD Patients, the relationship between sleep, quality of life and obesity, and weight loss strategies in CKD.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe research results and techniques in which those results can be integrated into clinical practice.
  • Generate dialog between participants on ways to identify issues specific to patients with CKD who are obese.
  • Use novel and interactive learning to present advanced information with techniques which will foster critical thinking, retention, and thus enhanced learning by participants
