Target Audience:
This course is for seasoned dietitians.

Course Description:
This course is class is designed to integrate new research into clinical practice and foster critical thinking strategies to improve nutrition status of patients with chronic kidney disease. This course will promote interactive learning that will result in changes in practice which ultimately will improve patient outcomes. This will be achieved by integrating research with clinical practice. Topics for presentation and discussion include: Inflammation: causes and impact on nutritional status; Exercise: the research and the clinical application; Reducing Metabolic Acidosis: Potentially an inexpensive and effective intervention, as well as Designer Oral Supplements: Can they reduce inflammation?

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. To describe research results and techniques in which those results can be integrated into clinical practice.
  2. To generate dialog between participants on ways to identify and reduce or ameliorate inflammation in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease.
  3. To use novel and interactive learning to present advanced information with techniques which will foster critical thinking, retention, and thus enhanced learning by participants.
