Meaningful Uses of Information Technology in CKD Care

Target Audience:
Designed for physicians, CMS Quality Improvement Organization Staff, and ESRD Network Staff.
Course Description:
New incentives for meaningful use of the electronic health records (EHR) to improve care will stimulate EHR implementation and innovation in U.S. physician practices and hospitals. This offers an opportunity to implement chronic kidney disease management, enhance patient safety, advance quality improvement, and foster communication. To assist local practices and hospitals in adoption and implementation, the experience of others will provide insight into the potential and pitfalls of information technology.
Course Objectives:
1. Identify the challenges for hospitals and physician practices to implement EHR.
2. Describe the potential and pitfalls of CKD Clinical Decision Support
3. Describe the potential and pitfalls of Computerized Physician Order Entry for nephrotoxins and drug dose adjustment.
4. Consider the information technology experience of others for local application.
