Course Description: This course will offer an in depth examination of personality disorders and how to identify and address the problems that can arise in the dialysis unit setting focusing on ethical dilemmas and boundary issues that can arise.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the diagnostic characteristics of the various personality disorders and the negative impact these individuals can have both on other patients and healthcare staff in dialysis units.
- Identify common ethical situations that often develop between patients with personality disorders and healthcare providers.
- Learn strategies to avoid violating professional boundaries and ethics with this type of patient.
- Apply techniques with patients having personality disorders so that interdisciplinary team members can effectively provide treatment with the least amount of disruption to other patients.
