Ask the Doctor
Questions about kidney disease? Risk factors? Signs and symptoms? Are you concerned about yourself, a friend or family member? Ask Dr. Spry.
A coffeehouse with a latte on the table and a friend at your side is the perfect setting for a serious talk about what's on your mind. Now kidney patients can have that supportive ambience without getting in the car or spending a dime. By picking up the phone and dialing in to a teleconference presented as one of the National Kidney Foundation's new "Coffeehouse Conversation™" series, people with kidney disease can share information and learn about the latest news on key issues that affect their lives and health.
A panel consisting of both patients and professionals will address new Medicare regulations, preparing for emergencies and natural disasters, infection control and patient care planning as part of the "Coffeehouse Conversation™" series. The teleconferences will be interactive with question and answer sessions following the panelists presentations.
"An educated patient plays a larger role in decisions on their own health," says Catherine Paykin, Transplant Services Director at the National Kidney Foundation. "With some guidance, a patient can advocate in both their doctor's office and Congress… Beyond the educational component, the support system is invaluable…patients feel they are not alone in their struggles and gain powerful insights from listening and responding to each other."
The Coffeehouse Conversations™ are free but registration is required. For more information and to register contact Marilyn Jones at 800-622-9010 x 177 or email coffeehouse@kidney.org
