National Kidney Foundation Elects New Board Members

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) announced the election of 6 new members to its Board of Directors.

Sean Elliott, ESPN commentator and former San Antonio Spurs star, made an unprecedented return to the NBA in 2000 just seven months after receiving a kidney transplant from his brother, Noel. He is currently a spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation and its U.S. Transplant Games, an Olympic-style event for transplant recipients.

Chuck Fruit, a Senior Vice President for WorldWide Media and Alliances for The Coca-Cola Company, is a longtime supporter of the NKF on both national and local levels. Suffering from kidney disease since childhood, Fruit received a kidney transplant in 1986.

Dr. David Warnock, President-elect of the NKF and Director of the Division of Nephrology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been involved with the National Kidney Foundation for more than a decade. Dr. Warnock is a widely published kidney researcher and recipient of the Tinsley Harrison "Outstanding Clinical Teacher" Award and a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigations and the American Association of Physicians.

John Harrison, a retired Ford Motor Company executive, has volunteered with the NKF of Michigan since the late 1980's. He has served on numerous NKF committees and currently serves as a human resources consultant with Ford Motor Company and the U.S. Department of State.

Carl Chaleff, formerly Manger of Oppenhiemer & Co., is CEO of Monaco Voila, a branding/advertising, marketing, communications and design firm in Chicago. Chaleff is also Immediate Past President of the NKF of Illinois. Chalef and his wife are longtime volunteers for the affiliate who were honored with the organization's "Making Lives Better" Award for their outstanding fund-raising work.

Dr. Martin Starr, a recent retiree of Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc., has worked with educational institutions across the globe during his career to study the health benefits of cranberry juice. He was also instrumental in establishing the recent partnership between Ocean Spray and the National Kidney Foundation.

The National Kidney Foundation is dedicated to preventing kidney and urinary diseases, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases, and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation.
