NEW YORK -- This season, why not spread holiday cheer with a gesture that might help someone receive the ultimate gift -- the gift of life. The Donate Life charity bracelet, from the National Kidney Foundation, is a great gift option for people hoping to make a difference with their holiday giving. Whether stuffed in a stocking or worked into holiday wrappings and ribbons, the bracelet may help those most in need this time of year.
As part of its annual Holiday Resolution Campaign, the National Kidney Foundation is offering a set of five green Donate Life bracelets for both early-bird and last minute holiday shoppers alike. By wearing a bracelet, Americans can show their support for the nearly 90,000 Americans awaiting life-saving organs. For those who need a new kidney, liver, heart or pair of lungs, new toys, gadgets, ties and even fruitcakes are luxuries they can’t afford to think about.
“This is one gift with enduring value,” says David Warnock, MD, president of the National Kidney Foundation. “By joining our campaign and proudly wearing your green Donate Life bracelet, you can raise awareness of organ donation --the gift of life.”
Every 12 minutes, another name is added to the national waiting list for life-saving organs. Each day, 18 people die because there are simply not enough available organs to meet the overwhelming demand. But one donor can save or enhance the lives of more than 50 people.
