The American Journal of Kidney Diseases (AJKD) inaugurated a new editorial team this month. Dr. Andrew S. Levey, Chief of the Division of Nephrology at Tufts-New England Medical Center, will lead the new staff as the Editor-in-Chief. Joining Dr. Levey will be members of the Tufts-New England Medical Center, Boston-area hospitals, and other medical professionals from around the world.
Dr. Levey is a Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and Chief of the William B. Schwartz, MD Division of Nephrology at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston. His research is in the areas of epidemiology of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular disease in CKD. He is a past recipient of the National Kidney Foundation’s Garabed Eknoyan Award for special contributions to its Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQI).
“I hope to maintain the current efficiencies established under Dr. Bertram Kasiske, the most recent Editor-in-Chief, while improving the quality of the Journal,” said Dr. Levey. Two items that authors and readers will see in the next few months include “structured reporting of original manuscripts and a broader range of features aimed at an international audience.”
Dr. Daniel Weiner, Associate Medical Director of Dialysis Clinic, Inc., also in Boston, will serve as the Deputy Editor. Other Tufts-New England Medical Center-based editors will include Dr. V.S. Balakrishnan, Dr. Mark Sarnak, Dr. Katrin Uhlig, Dr. Scott Gilbert, Dr. Vandana Menon, Dr. Christopher Schmid, and Dr. John T. Harrington.
The terms of office begin October 2006 and continue for five years. The first issue of AJKD to be developed by the new staff will be January 2007.AJKD is the official journal of the National Kidney Foundation. Recognized as the foremost source of information on the latest developments in clinical nephrology, the Journal contains original investigations on kidney diseases, hypertension, dialysis therapies, and kidney transplantation.
