The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) today announced a new award developed by the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF), that recognizes outstanding service provided to donor families. The award, the MTF DonorCARE Award, will be presented to an individual or group that has provided consistent and comprehensive care to all donor families they serve. MTF will present the award at the National Kidney Foundation 2000 U.S. Transplant Games Orlando, Florida.
“The National Kidney Foundation is deeply committed to providing support and service to donor families,” says John Davis, chief executive officer of the National Kidney Foundation. “We are pleased the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation has established this important award and join them in paying tribute to those who share our commitment to providing extraordinary donor family care.”
The MTF DonorCARE Award is the newest of the U.S. Transplant Games honors that recognize the service, commitment and support of those who make donation possible as well as the accomplishments of transplant recipients. Among the awards presented at the Games are: the Jerry Cound Outstanding Athlete Awards for athletic performance; the American Society of Transplant Physicians’ Award, which recognizes an individual’s commitment to promoting organ donor awareness; and the Mickey Mantle Courage Award, presented to an athlete who has overcome the greatest challenges to participate in the Games. All awards are presented at the Games’ closing ceremonies.
The U.S. Transplant Games is a biennial, Olympic-style event that celebrates the gift of life and heralds the success of organ transplantation by demonstrating that transplant recipients can and do lead full and active lives. Games participants are athletes who have received life-saving organ transplants of every type, including kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas and bone marrow. The National Kidney Foundation 2000 U.S. Transplant Games will be held June 21-24, 2000, at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.
