Dialysis

NKF has worked with Members of the 110th Congress to introduce and build support for legislation that would create a Medicare educational benefit for kidney disease patients before they require costly treatments, such as dialysis or transplantation.

The Kidney Disease Education Benefits Act of 2007, S.432/H.R.1245, to provide kidney disease classes for Medicare beneficiaries with Stage 4 kidney disease.

A similar Medicare kidney disease education provision also is included in the Kidney Care Quality and Education Act of 2007 (S.691; H.R.1193).

The U.S. House of Representatives included some of these provisions in their Medicare bill this year, but Senate action is pending. The Kidney Provisions in Medicare Package are outlined here (PDF* 42kb download).
