Congressional Kidney Caucus Recent Events
The Congressional Kidney Caucus works closely with the National Kidney Foundation and other leaders within the kidney community to build awareness of kidney disease, promote prevention and improve patient care. Below are recent events co-sponsored by the NKF and the Kidney Caucus.
World Kidney Day Reception
On March 7, 2007 – the eve of World Kidney Day – the National Kidney Foundation and Congressional Kidney Caucus sponsored a congressional reception in the Rayburn House Office Building. Stakeholders from across the kidney community, Members of Congress and dozens of congressional staff attended. Representatives Jim McDermott (D-WA) and Mark Kirk (R-IL), co-chairs of the Kidney Caucus, addressed more than 120 attendees, thanking them for their support and underscoring the importance of kidney disease education and prevention.
The event kicked-off World Kidney Day activities, which included an NKF led advocacy fly-in. Twenty-four NKF People Like Us patient advocates traveled to Washington for World Kidney Day and met with 90 House and Senate offices. They shared their stories about kidney disease, and urged their delegations to support educational classes for Medicare beneficiaries with advanced kidney disease.
