Tips on Writing a Legislator
- Address your letter properly.
- State your purpose for writing in the first paragraph of the letter. If your letter pertains to a specific piece of legislation, identify it accordingly, e.g.; House Bill (number) or Senate Bill (number).
- Be brief. Address only one issue in each letter and keep your letters to one page.
- Be courteous and to the point. Include key information and use personal experiences to support your position. Also, include the action you would like Congress to take and the time table involved.
- Inform NKF. Notify the NKF Office of Scientific & Public Policy that you have written a member of Congress so that we can better coordinate our efforts.
