FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When and where is the next NKF U.S. Transplant Games?

Since the U.S. Games occur every two years, the next Games in the U.S are July 11-16, 2008 in Pittsburgh, PA. The next World Transplant Games are August 25 – September 2, 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Am I welcome?

Yes, everyone is! Transplant recipients, living donors, donor families, transplant professionals, volunteers and spectators are all welcome at the NKF U.S. Transplant Games. Our audience is anyone who would like to experience transplantation success while having a great time!

What can be donated?

The heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, pancreas, stomach, and intestines are the organs that may be donated. The tissue that may be donated includes the corneas, tendons, saphenous and femoral veins, fascia, heart valves, skin and bone. If the organs and tissue cannot be donated for transplant, you still could have the chance to help others through education and research to find cures for arthritis, diabetes, skin disorders, cancer, and many other illnesses.

How many people can be helped through donation?

One organ and tissue donor directly may help more than 50 people. Organs can help others through life-saving transplants. Corneas renew sight, and tissue may help to restore someone's ability to walk, run or move freely without pain. Skin donation enhances the lives of burn victims.
