Donated kidney to sister

Donated my kidney to sister 18 years ago. We are both doing great. Would be more than happy to answer any questions with regard to someone considering donating.

I'm currently going through the pre-transplant testing. I just found out I'm a match for my dad! I'm excited but was just wondering what the side effects are for you with having one kidney. I've been researching but they don't have anything on the day to day living.

I have not had any side effects at all and from what I hear the way they remove the kidney from the donor now makes the recovery alot easier on the donor. My sisters transplant was almost 19 years ago. I get tested every couple of years to make sure my one kidney is functioning properly - and it is!

I was 25 at the time and had a 6 month old and was able to get up the next day out of hospital bed and see my sister in ICU>. I really cant think of any negative side of effect of donating.

Im so happy for you that you are a match for your dad.
