This is truly a one-of-a-kind program. The first “reality series” of, by, and for the dialysis community.
Our new NKF Patient Education and Empowerment Program tells the compelling story of a group of dialysis patients and their healthcare team. People just like you!
The program follows these individuals through a variety of crises, conflicts, discoveries, and, most importantly, triumphs: being diagnosed with kidney disease, coping with the diagnosis, starting dialysis, complying with treatment, maintaining a healthy diet, managing complications, dealing with family issues, and much more.
You will learn and benefit through their experiences.
Created by your peers—and yourself!
We've asked people from the dialysis community—patients, physicians, nurses, dietitians, social workers, technicians, and patients' family members—to identify key issues to address. Six times per year— every other month—the National Kidney Foundation will update the program to spotlight new topics, and to continue to offer new tools to educate and empower patients and support healthcare teams.
The program combines educational and empowering information in a range of formats:
- Storytelling posters
- This website dedicated to the program
- An online chat room
- Online surveys
- Special e—mail updates
- Print and online learning aids
- Teaching tools
Equally important—we want to hear from you! We encourage you to contribute your ideas on issues that the program should address and to relate your personal experiences with dialysis. Simply CLICK HERE to participate!
The new NKF Patient Education and Empowerment Program is truly a major multimedia initiative…and a historic first for the kidney community.
