Quilt Pinning Ceremony
Friday, June 28 from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm
Renaissance WorldGate Hotel
Patches of Love: The National Donor Family Quilt commemorates the love and lives of those who have given the Gift of Life through organ and/or tissue donation. Since 1995, over 2000 families have created patches to remember and honor their loved ones.

During a special Quilt Pinning, National Donor Family Council (NDFC) volunteers will help families pin their own "Patches of Love" to the newest Quilt panel. As they pin the commemorative patches, family members can share a few words about their loved ones through a story, memory or poem. If you choose to share something, you may find it helpful to write something ahead of time so that you or an NDFC volunteer can share it with participants.

Patches must be an 8" x 8" square, allowing for a 1/2" margin on all four sides (design should be within 7"). Patches that are larger or smaller than the designated size will be returned. For a detailed brochure on how to make a patch, please call the NKF at (800) 622-9010. Please note: The Quilt is designed to memorialize those who have donated organs and/or tissues upon their deaths.

DANIEL BUTLER FUND

This fund has been established in the name of Daniel Butler, a young transplant recipient whose life was tragically ended in an automobile accident in 1995. Knowing that his participation in the U.S. Transplant Games was one of the greatest experiences of his life, his family requested that memorial donations be used to establish a Fund, the interest from which would provide financial assistance for an athlete who would otherwise not be able to attend the Games. A $300 grant is available to assist one individual. This stipend may only be applied to travel and/or accommodations to attend the 2002 U.S. Transplant Games.

If you fit the criteria for this grant, contact your Team Manager for an application. The application deadline for this grant is Monday, May 6, 2002. Due to the nature of this grant, Grant Recipient’s late Games registration will be accepted.

If you would like information on establishing a Games grant or fund “In Honor” (birthday, transplant anniversary, or other special event/occasion) or “In Memoriam” of your friend or loved one, contact your Team Manager for an application or visit the Games Web site at www.transplantgames.org
