A kidney-pancreas recipient and former high school varsity volleyball coach, Graves took on the job of organizing the team only four months after receiving his transplant. “I coached high school girls, so how hard could it be to coach adults who are experiencing their second chance at life?” says Graves. Today, he is back in the gym coaching varsity volleyball. Team Northern California won a total of 60 medals among 27 athletes, two of whom were former outstanding athlete award winners. Tom Glennon, a kidney recipient from Sunnyvale, California brought home the most medals of anyone on the team, a total of seven pieces of hardware. Six donor family members, one living donor and countless friends and families traveled along to root for Team Northern California at the U.S. Transplant Games this summer. |
