Sean Elliott's Basketball Clinic
Patrick and Jamie Fitzgerald
Our daughter, Erin Fitzgerald is an eight-year-old Transplant Games athlete. She received a kidney from her dad when she was 18 months old. This was Erin's second U.S. Transplant Games. She won two gold medals at the 2002 Games in Orlando, FL.
Erin loves playing sports, especially basketball. She met Sean Elliott at the last Transplant Games and she was very excited to participate in his Basketball Clinic. Erin went to the 9:00 am clinic for kids 14 and under. Kids of all sizes and abilities came to play. Sean treated them all like stars—especially the little ones. Erin thought Sean was very nice—and very tall!
Sean divided the kids into three teams and practiced drills with them. They had races using the different basketball skills Sean had taught them. The two teams that finished the races last had to do pushups. The kids didn't complain--they thought it was fun! Sean then worked individually with all the kids on their dribbling and shooting skills. Erin most enjoyed learning to dribble the ball between her legs, even though the ball barely fit through hers!
Overall, Erin really enjoyed Sean Elliott's Basketball Clinic. We enjoyed watching how well Sean interacted with all the kids and how well they responded to him. It was great to see someone like Sean take the time to work with all those kids. He really made them feel special! Erin is looking forward to the next U.S. Transplant Games and, hopefully, the chance to participate in another Sean Elliott Basketball Clinic.
