Swimmer Terry Gould’s cheering section included, from left, Rebecca Thieese and Kaelah, Breanna, Brian and Alissa Gould. Sitting in front of the Gould children were Buck and Nancy Coleman, parents of heart donor Chase Coleman, and Gould’s wife, Patrice.
A younger heart powered Terry Gould, 52, as he raced in the U.S. Transplant Games on Thursday. His wife and kids were cheering him on, and so were the parents who lost a 20-year-old son a little more than a year ago — whose heart now beats in Gould’s chest.

Gould, of Plymouth, Mich., received the heart of Chase Coleman after he died in a car accident in May 2003. The Colemans, of Millington, Mich., agreed to donate seven of Chase’s organs to different recipients.

Gould finished third in his swimming competition, earning the bronze medal.
