UPDATE - February 22, 2005:

Whether you’re nationally ranked or a recreational athlete, this is your time to show the world that transplantation works! Over 2,000 transplant recipients, accompanying friends and family members are expected to attend the nine-day, multi-sport celebration in Canada, including a special sports program for child recipients. Competition in the World Transplant Games is open to all persons who have received a life-supporting organ transplant more than a year before the Games.

IMPORTANT NOTE

The Canadian local organizing committee can host up to 2,150 participants in total; therefore, there will be two registration phases for all participants to ensure that each country has an equal opportunity to register. The LOC has announced that registration will be conducted online beginning on January 1, 2005 (go to www.2005wtg.london.ca). After you’ve registered online for the Games, full payment will then need to be forwarded to Team USA Headquarters in order to complete your registration. Contact the Team USA office if you are not able to register online and/or you would prefer to submit a paper registration. Paper registration forms will be made available by the LOC.

Team USA will be limited to 100 athletes and 50 family members/friends during the first registration period or Phase 1 (January 1 – February 28, 2005). Team USA registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis (all fees must be paid in full to guarantee placement).

Transplant recipients who are part of the National Kidney Foundation’s Elite Athlete Program (EAP) will be guaranteed a position on Team USA 2005. EAP athletes include the Jerry Cound Outstanding Male and Female athletes from the 2004 U.S. Transplant Games—Padraic McCole of Rosemont, Pennsylvania and Melissa Choi Salvador of Portland, Oregon— who will be sponsored by NKF/National. In addition, we are very pleased to announce that for the first time, the following local teams have opted to elect and provide a full or partial sponsorships for their respective Outstanding Male and Female Athletes as part of the local EAP:

  • Team Connecticut
  • Team Illinois
  • Team Maine
  • Team MO-Kan
  • Team Upper Midwest
  • Team Western New York

Those who register for Team USA after the 100-athlete and/or 50-spectator limit has been reached will be waitlisted in the order that their registration and full payment were received. If additional space becomes available during the second registration period or Phase 2 (March 15 - April 29, 2005) registrations will be submitted in the order in which they were waitlisted.
