ESRD and Substance Abuse: Working With Complex Patients
Addiction continues to be on the rise, and the ESRD population is not immune to this epidemic. It is important as Renal Professionals to have an understanding of addiction, with particular attention to opioid dependence. Not only will we be introduced to how Motivational Interviewing can be used to try to engage our patients in a discussion about addiction, and treatment options, we will also learn about MAT (medication assisted treatment) as it relates to the medical model of addiction.
