World Kidney Day

World Kidney Day Is Thursday, March 11, 2010
Currently, more than 26 million Americans have chronic kidney disease (CKD) and millions more are at risk. If you have high blood pressure or diabetes, you should get your kidneys checked—they are two of the leading causes of kidney disease. If you keep your high blood pressure and diabetes under control, you may be able to prevent kidney damage.
“Most people with kidney disease are not diagnosed until late in the course of illness when there are few opportunities for prevention. We need to alert the public and health policy makers to this real threat to populations here in Upstate New York, the U.S. and around the world and to the fact that early detection can make a difference,” says John Davis, CEO, National Kidney Foundation
