What's New
- Join our Team Liberty at the NKF 2010 U.S. Transplant Games July 30 — August 4, in Madison, Wisconsin! (Click to learn more.)
- Major Kidney Legislation Passed…The House and the Senate over-road a Presidential veto to establish the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Law of 2008, H.R 6331, that included provisions for coverage for Stage 4 Patient Education, an automatic update in the reimbursement rate for dialysis treatments, and a quality assurance program for dialysis patients. NKF’s public policy team and its ‘People Like Us’ Patient Advocacy Organization and Take Action Network were fully engaged in the effort. Thousands of messages were sent to Congressional Offices in the months before the final vote.
- Join the NKF People Like Us — Take Action Network… to be an effective patient advocate for your health care. Our electronic advocacy system will allow you to immediately email your representatives in Congress when urgent legislative and policy issues arise. To join visit www.nkfpeoplelikeus.org or call 212.889.2210 x251
- Free Grand Rounds Program Offered on CKD…For nephrologists, keeping abreast of state of the art information is an ongoing process. For primary care providers, information on what chronic kidney disease is, how to diagnose it and how to treat it is essential in reaching the ever-growing CKD population. In response to this need, NKF serving GNY provides speakers for medical or renal grand rounds at no cost to the institution.
The focus of the Grand Rounds Program is on the timely identification and treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and on the link between cardiovascular disease (CVD), diabetes and CKD. The overall goal of the activity is to improve the outcomes of patients with diabetes and hypertension through increased awareness and education on the early evaluation and management of CKD for health care providers who care for people with these diagnoses.
The one-hour lectures are designed for physicians (nephrologists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, internists, family care practitioners, urologists, etc), but are open to physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, social workers, pharmacists and dialysis technicians. A set of slides help guide the lecturer(s). Educate your medical colleagues by offering this free program at your site. For information call Ellen Yoshiuchi at 212.889.2210 x228 or elleny@kidney.org - Our new Fall 2008 newsletter is available as of October 1st.
