Financial Aid
The NKF of Indiana, Inc. works to enrich the lives of kidney patients. With programs and services that educate, motivate, and meet the needs of patients and their families, NKFI encourages hope. Through programs such as educational activities and pediatric projects like the free book Adventure at Riverside Park, A Story About Pediatric Dialysis, the NKFI helps patients and their families become more informed about kidney disease and treatment options. The NKFI also assists patients with their immediate financial needs by offering emergency financial assistance, prescription discounts, and by awarding Larry Smock Scholarships to kidney patients who wish to pursue higher education. ![]()
Education
The NKF of Indiana, Inc. believes that education is the best way to prevent kidney disease. The Foundation provides public information materials on kidney disease and organ donation, and makes public presentations including an interactive lesson about kidney disease designed specifically for elementary school children. NKFI also conducts free health screenings that include tests for high-blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney disease. ![]()

The NKFI also provides educational opportunities for local renal professionals to discuss the latest advances in nephrology with other local, national, and international experts. The Foundation awards research grants to physicians, nurses, social workers, and dietitians to assist them in working toward a cure for kidney and urological diseases. Research grant applications are accepted from September through November annually. Grants are awarded in February. ![]()
