Innovations in Healthcare Awards

The NKF of Michigan, Inc. and its partners offer three awards for innovative treatment or prevention programs at its Lansing Champion of Hope Tribute Dinner. The awards are presented to programs in the areas of diabetes, cardiovascular disease (includes physical activity and nutrition) and kidney disease (includes dialysis and transportation programs). Professional Education Programs

The NKFM offers educational programs designed for renal professionals. Topics are diverse and bring the most up to date information available in renal replacement therapy. Symposiums are offered in Southeast Michigan, West Michigan, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

KDOQI: Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative
The goal of K/DOQI is to improve patient outcomes and survival by providing recommendations for optimal clinical practices, thereby increasing efficiency of care and positively impacting outcomes for all patients with chronic kidney disease. K/DOQI includes a process for guideline development, as well as programming for guideline implementation. more information

Educational Programs on Diabetes and Kidney Disease
This program educates people with diabetes about their risk for kidney disease, measures they can take to decrease the risk, and recommended testing and treatment for early kidney disease and kidney screenings.

Prevention Education for Health Care Professionals
The NKFM collaborates with many diabetes and cardiovascular groups to educate health care professionals. This program is part of our State Renal Plan.

Applications for Clinical Scientist Research, Research Fellowship, and Young Investigator Grants for projects concerned with kidney function, kidney related disease, organ donation and transplantation, are now being accepted by the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM), and Gift of Life Michigan for granting period July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010. National Kidney Foundation Spring Clinical Meetings

The Spring Clinical Meetings (www.nkfclinicalmeetings.org) are designed to bring you fresh approaches to dealing with difficult clinical issues. The program includes interactive sessions for Nephrologists, Fellows and Residents, Nephrology Nurses and Technicians, Renal and Clinical Dietitians, Nephrology Social Workers, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. All programs are accredited for CME and/or CE credit hours.
