THE PROGRAM

Get Ready, Get Fit! is a free program presented by the NKF in conjunction with the President's Council on Fitness to encourage health and fitness among transplant recipients involved with the U.S. Transplant Games. The local and national Get Ready, Get Fit! programs will aid your team members in developing a fitness plan, setting achievable activity goals, and allow you to track your progress in preparing for the 2004 U.S. Transplant Games. Through logging your fitness activities and attaining activity points, you can earn special Presidential Challenge awards. By joining the national program, you will also be able to compare your progress with other participants training for the 2004 Games across the country!

Anyone, including your family members and friends, can participate in the program; however, only transplant athletes who qualify will receive an Award at the 2004 U.S. Transplant Games and will be recognized at Opening Ceremony! Even if you do not qualify for a Presidential Challenge award, it is a great way to demonstrate that transplantation works, to improve your athletic skills for the 2004 Games, and most importantly, to improve your own health and well-being.

Note: Be sure to consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.

PARTICIPANT ENROLLMENT

Participant Enrollment Log-In Page-by-Page Instruction (*PDF 1 MB)

Each individual interested in participating in Get Ready, Get Fit! should take the following steps to enroll:

STEP #1. Contact your team manager to obtain your local Group and Group Member ID Numbers. Your local Group ID Number will be 8 characters long: a 3-letter team code, followed by a 4-digit number, followed by an 'A' or 'S' (signifying whether you are an athlete or a spectator).

Obtaining Group and Group Member ID numbers from your team manager will allow you to register for multiple groups but will also prevent duplicate records. It will also allow NKF/National to identify those who have earned a Presidential Challenge Award.

If you have already completed Step #1, write in your group information below (for future reference) and proceed to Step #2.

My Local Group ID Number is ________________.
The National Group ID Number is 1074.
My Local Group Member ID Number is ________________.

STEP #2. Sign Up! on the President's Challenge website at www.presidentschallenge.com.

  1. To get started, you must first select your age category: Kid (3-12), Teen (13-17), Adult (18-64), or Senior (65+).
  2. Once on the 'GETTING STARTED' page, you will need to click on the icon to create your User Name (Remember to use your name, as you would like it to appear on your Award) and Password. Then enter your Personal Information.
  3. Next, you will have to choose between three programs to participate in, the Active Lifestyle, Presidential Champions, or the Advanced Performance Presidential program.

Active Lifestyle Program: If you're active less than 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week and want to improve, this program is for you. The goal is to log at least 30 minutes of activity a day, 5 days a week, for 6 of 8 weeks.

Presidential Champions Program: If you're already active and want a new challenge, this program is for you. The goal is to see how many activity points you can earn for being active. You'll earn points for every activity you log. Points are based on the amount of energy each activity burns. So the more active you are, the more points you'll get.

Advanced Performance Presidential Program: If you're active more than an hour a day, at least 5 days a week, you can choose the Advanced Performance Presidential Champions program - where you'll participate against others who train at advanced levels.

Once you have signed up, you can log-in and click on the 'YOUR GROUPS' tab, where they will be able to enter the Group Number's and Member ID's to add the local and national groups to your profile and then can begin logging your activity.

THE PRESIDENT'S CHALLENGE AWARDS & RECOGNITION

As mentioned previously, through logging your fitness activities and earning activity points, transplant athletes can earn special Presidential Challenge certificates and will be recognized at the Opening Ceremony of the 2004 U.S. Transplant Games! The NKF/National will be responsible for monitoring the progress of registered athletes in the National Get Ready, Get Fit! Group during the specific time period leading up to the Games.

Please note that only transplant athletes who register for the 2004 U.S. Games and participate in the National Get Ready, Get Fit! program will be eligible to receive the Presidential Challenge awards at the 2004 Transplant Games. Transplant athletes who achieve awards and are recognized at the Opening Ceremony will not receive their certificate of achievement award at the Games. Team managers will distribute the awards after the event.

The Presidential Active Lifestyle Award - The goal is to meet your daily activity goal (30 minutes a day for adults/60 minutes a day for kids under 18) at least 5 days a week, for a total of 6 weeks. You can take up to 8 weeks to complete the program.

The Presidential Champions Bronze Award - For anyone who earns 20,000 points in the Presidential Champions program (or 40,000 points in the Advanced Performance Presidential Champions program).

The Presidential Champions Silver Award - For anyone who earns 45,000 points in the Presidential Champions program (or 90,000 points in the Advanced Performance Presidential Champions program).

Presidential Champions Gold Award - For anyone who earns 80,000 points in the Presidential Champions program (or 160,000 points in the Advanced Performance Presidential Champions program).

LET THE CHALLENGE BEGIN!

The official start and end dates to qualify for awards with the national Get Ready, Get Fit! program will be Sunday, January 11 through June 30, 2004! You may enroll and begin training with the program prior to and continue after these dates, but only logged activity points during this time frame will be considered for Presidential Awards from the National Kidney Foundation.

GOOD LUCK!
