Athletic Events in Alphabetical Order
BADMINTON Monday, June 19 8:00AM - 4:00PM
Kentucky International Convention Center (KICC)

Format: Elimination tournament, best two out of three games to 9 points. Check tournament brackets to verify contest time.
Equipment: Players to provide own rackets. Shuttles will be provided. All players must wear court shoes.
3 ON 3 BASKETBALL Sunday-Monday, June 18-19 6:30PM - 10:00PM
Kentucky International Convention Center (KICC)
Rules: Games will consist of two 15-minute halves with 2-minute stop clock at the end of the second half. Teams will consist of a maximum of six players. All games will be officiated. On the fifth foul, an individual player will be considered fouled out of the game. After five team fouls, any foul in the act of shooting will be awarded one free throw plus the ball.
Format: Teams will compete in four divisions--men’s open, men’s rec., youth (14 and under) and co-ed (at least one woman playing at all times)--in elimination tournaments to determine the top three teams. Due to the limited number of possible entries, each team will be allowed one automatic entry. Additional 3 on 3 teams will be allotted based on overall team size.
*For younger players, basketball clinics will be held on Tuesday, June 20 which will feature instruction, drills, and fun team play. This is open to registered athletes 14 years of age and under.

Equipment: All players must wear court shoes. Balls will be provided.

Format: Teams of two persons from each Games team will compete in a three-game series to determine the top three teams in men’s and women’s divisions. Mixed doubles will compete in the men’s division. Due to the limited number of possible entries, each team will be allowed two automatic entries. Additional teams will be allotted based on overall team size.
CYCLING Tuesday, June 20 9:00AM - 2:00PM
Shawnee Park
Rules: As a general guide, International Cycling Union rules can be found atwww.uci.ch/english/about/rules.htm. Helmets must be worn. Bicycles must be in a safe and ride-able condition. There will be a mandatory safety inspection for all competitors. All races will be videotaped as part of the scoring/timing effort.
Format: The first event is a 5 kilometer closed course time triall (1 kilometer for athletes 17 and under) beginning at 10:00AM. The winner will be the individual with the lowest elapsed time. All competitors must be present at 9:30AM.
The second event will be a 20 kilometer road race by age groups, beginning at approximately 11:00AM. Some age group races will be combined in the interest of competition. All competitors will be allowed 30 minutes after the first competitor finishes to complete the course.
GOLF Sunday, June 18 8:00AM - 4:00PM
Shawnee and Iroquois Courses
Rules: As a general guide, United States Golf Association rules can be found at

Format: Golfers will compete in an 18-hole stroke-play, individual tournament with a shotgun start beginning at 9:00AM. All women and men 50 and over will play on the Shawnee course; all men under 50 will play on Iroquois. Men will play from the white tees; women from the red. The Shawnee course slope for men is 116; for women 112. The Iroquois course slope is 116. Competitors should arrive 15 minutes prior to tournament start. All athletes will use golf carts. Medals will be awarded in both low gross and low net divisions. To compete in the net division, acceptable proof of handicap from the 2003 season must be submitted--there will be no exceptions. Please submit a USGA handicap card/GHIN number to your Team Manager. All handicaps will be verified. To allow sufficient time for verification, proof of handicap must be submitted by May 26 to your Team Manager. A handicap index of up to 25.0 for men and 29.0 for women will be applied. Handicaps will be adjusted to the slope of the course.
Equipment: Players to provide own clubs.
TEAM GOLF Tuesday, June 20 8:00AM - 4:00PM
Shawnee Course
Format: Two golfers from each team will compete in an 18-hole best ball tournament with a shotgun start beginning at 8:00AM. Additional golf teams will be allotted based on the size of each Games team. All athletes will use golf carts. Medals will be awarded in both low gross and low net divisions. Net scores will be computed by using previously submitted handicaps as adjusted for slope.
RACQUETBALL (SINGLES) Tuesday, June 20 9:00AM - 5:00PM

Format: Elimination tournament with qualifying (seeding) rounds if possible.
Equipment: Players to provide own rackets. Eye protection and appropriate footwear are required. Balls will be provided.
RACQUETBALL (DOUBLES) Sunday, June 18 9:00AM - 5:00PM

Format: Due to the team format of competition, there will be competition only by gender, not by age group. Players desiring to compete in the doubles racquetball competition must secure a partner from their team prior to returning their registration materials—contact your Team Manager for assistance in finding a partner. Athlete should submit name of partner on entry form. There will be no on-site doubles registration. For safety reasons, it is highly recommended that participants in doubles racquetball have prior experience in this activity.
Equipment: Players to provide their own rackets. All players must wear court shoes. Balls will be provided.
5K ROAD RACE Saturday, June 17 8:30AM - 10:00AM
Downtown Louisville
Athletes should note that this event is also known as the 5K Race/Walk for Organ & Tissue Donation Awareness and will include interested individuals involved in organ and tissue donation and transplantation. Recipient Families, Donor Families, and health professionals are invited to participate. The purpose of this event is to illustrate the diversity of the people it takes to make organ transplantation possible. Only transplant athletes will be eligible for Games medals, but there will be a separate awards structure for all other participants. (Please note: For non-Transplant Games athletes, there is a separate registration and fee for this event.)

Format: Because of the large number of entries, there will be no trials. All events will be timed finals. The times below are approximate. The meet will run continuously and may run ahead of schedule. Relay entries will be accepted until one hour before the start of each relay. The pool is 25 meters in length.

Format: Elimination tournament, best three out of five games to 11 points. Check tournament brackets to verify contest time.
Equipment: Competitors must provide their own paddles; no “sandpaper” paddles allowed. Competitors must wear court shoes. Balls will be provided.

Rules: As a general guide, United States Tennis Association rules can be found at www.usta.com/rules/.
Surface: Cushioned hard court, six indoor and eight outdoor courts.
Format: Elimination tournament, eight-game pro-set matches. Ties at seven games will be resolved using a 12 point tie-breaker (must win by 2). Check tournament brackets to verify contest time.
Equipment: Players provide own rackets. Competitors must wear court shoes. Balls will be provided.

Rules: As a general guide, United States Tennis Association rules can be found at www.usta.com/rules/. In Men's and women's doubles, competition will be by age groups--age groups will be assigned based on the procedure described in the general sports information. In mixed doubles, there will be no age group competition.

TRACK AND FIELD Monday, June 19 8:00AM - 6:00PM
Cardinal Park Soccer and Track Stadium
Format: As a general guide, USA Track and Field rules can be found at
www.usatf.org/about/rules/. There will be no on-site entry in any event (except for relays).
Track Events: Timed event finals by age group and gender. Tentative schedule of events:

Field Events: Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus, and Softball Throw will be scheduled for competitions between age groups. All competitors will make three attempts at the events’ scheduled times. Start times for each age group will be available at registration. In the shot put, men 18-39 will use a 16-pound shot; all women and men 60 and over will use a 4-kilo (8.8 pound) shot; men 15-17 and 40-59 will use a 12-pound shot. High Jump to be contested using revolving flight method, opening height for women is 3'6" and 4' for men. In Discus, all men under 60 will throw the 1.6 kilogram disc; all women and men 60 and over will throw the 1 kilogram disc.

Discus
Note: Exact times will be available at registration.
Equipment: All equipment, starting blocks, throwing implements and batons will be provided. If an athlete wears spiked shoes, spikes can be no longer than 1/4".
Due to the large number of entries, there will be no trials, except in the 100-meter dash. There will be a 50 meter dash for children 2-5, 6-10 and 11-14 years of age–children can enter either the 50-meter dash or the 100 meters, but not both. Relay entries will be accepted on-site until one hour before the scheduled start of each relay. All relay members must be members of the same Games team. The track is an nine lane synthetic track with a Martin ISS 2000 "embedded” surface; spikes of 1/4" or less will be allowed.
In the 1500-meter Racewalk, USA Track and Field rules will be enforced. Competitors will be disqualified for failure to observe the rules of this event. There will be a special rules and information clinic on the racewalk to assist Games participants.
VOLLEYBALL Tuesday, June 20 8:00AM - 5:00PM

Rules: As a general guide, USA Volleyball rules can be found at www.usavolleyball.org (PDF 00KB).Teams will consist of six players, with at least one woman on the court at all times.
Teams may choose to use a libero to replace a player in the back row. The libero is required to wear a different color shirt. Up to six substitutions are allowed per game. A woman must be on court at all times during the match.
Format: Teams will compete in a co-ed elimination tournament to determine the top three teams. Due to the limited number of possible entries, each registered team in the Games will be allowed one automatic entry. Additional volleyball teams will be allotted based on the team size.
The first round will be played as a "round-robin" where each team in a group plays against each other team in the group. The top team(s) in each group will then progress to the knock-out stages, which will use standard seeding procedures. The first round will be games of two sets to 25; rally scoring, no time limit. The top two teams in each pool would then go to the playoffs. Ties between teams are broken by considering the scores of the sets. the team with the best points ratio of points for divided by points lost is the winner. The playoff rounds will be the best two of three games, games to 25 points, rally scoring. Third games, if needed, to 15 points.
