Faces of the Games
JUDITH HAMMES MURPHY,
St. Paul, Minnesota
Suffering from debilitating lung disease, Judith Hammes Murphy knew that time was not on her side. She needed new lungs in order to survive.
At the age of 56, she made medical history by becoming the oldest living lobe lung transplant recipient in the world. Her son, David, and sister, Christie, each gave Judith pieces of their lungs so she would be able to undergo
transplant surgery and once again breathe deeply.
Since the transplant, Judith is thriving. This July she will attend the National Kidney Foundation 2006 Transplant Games where she will compete in the golf competitions and celebrate her second chance at life.
