Here is some information about the history of the event and its current status. The first Winter World Transplant Games was held in 1994 Tignes, France. In keeping with a biennial schedule, the 1994 event was followed up by Winter Games in Pra Loup, France in 1996.

However, in 1999 the U.S. hosted the Winter World Transplant Games in Salt Lake City, Utah in lieu of the U.S. Winter Transplant Games, which began in 1995. There was no Winter World Games in 1998. This threw off the "traditional" schedule of U.S. Winter and World (Summer) Games in the odd year, and U.S. (Summer) and Winter World Transplant Games in the even years. The World Transplant Games Federation (WTGF) opted to conduct a winter event in 2001 in Nendaz, Switzerland, but wanted to put the Games schedule back on track.

The first Nicolas Cup, a race for children in honor of Nicolas Green, was held in Switzerland in 2001. It was subsequently announced that this would be an annual event. Although the NKF does not organize a team to attend this event, we are happy to distribute the information about it to our U.S. athletes, in case they would like to attend on their own. This event, and the ski week for adults held in conjunction with it, should not be mistaken for the Winter World Transplant Games.
