Local Activities
The National Donor Family Council is the largest organization of donor families in the world. To ensure support on local levels, many families, National Kidney Foundation affiliates, bereavement groups and organ recovery agencies work with us to identify needs in their areas and provide programs and resources for donor families throughout the country.

Donor family liaisons are donor family volunteers who work in their home areas to support local donor families and connect them with the National Donor Family Council. Liaisons are the donor family team escorts to the U.S. Transplant Games, working year-round with National Kidney Foundation divisions and affiliates to welcome local donor families to the Games and other events.

Sue Capps, Louisiana donor mom and volunteer
The National Donor Family Council benefited from Sue's enthusiasm during the 2002 U.S. Transplant Games, where she volunteered as the Donor Family Liaison for Team Louisiana. Sue became a donor mom in 1993 when her eight-year-old son, Corey, died in an accident. Since then, she's been an advocate of donor family support and awareness.
"Earlier that year, I attended a donor awareness workshop put on by the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA)," said Sue. "The workshop featured men from Transplant Speakers International who shared tips for improving public speaking skills on organ and tissue donation. The speakers gave us all kinds of ideas on approaching different organizations and local businesses about the opportunity to speak to them about donation."
"At first, the amount of information they shared was a bit overwhelming, but I began this task by getting more information from LOPA and copies of the workshop handouts. That was a good place to start my campaign to reach as many people as I can about organ and tissue donor awareness, as well as a good month - October. Corey would have been seventeen years old on October 25th."
