A Whole New World for Nephrology Social Work

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), an accredited provider by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation*, an accredited provider by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and an accredited provider by the Association for Social Work Boards (ASWB) to provide continuing education to physicians, nurses/dialysis technicians, dietitians and social workers respectively. In addition, individual activities are approved on an activity specific basis for family physicians, advanced practitioners (nurse practitioners and physician assistants), pharmacists, certified case managers, certified rehabilitation counselors, and other specialties.

*Activity approvals: Prior to January 2012 through the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA); January 2012-December 2012 through the Ohio Nurses Association (ONA).

The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to expand their practice beyond micro clinical services to higher objectives of macro development to forward their personal goals and those of their profession.  Social workers will learn to utilize existing resources and skills to advocate for and create new roles beyond the historical roles of social work in nephrology.
