Frequently asked questions

Why donate cryptocurrency?

Donating cryptocurrency is a non-taxable event. Donors do not owe capital gains tax on the appreciated crypto that is donated and can typically deduct the fair market value of the donation on their taxes.

This often makes Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrency donations one of the most tax efficient ways to support the National Kidney Foundation. Talk to a crypto-savvy tax professional or connect with The Giving Block to get connected with one. Is my donation tax-deductible?

When you donate crypto to NKF, you do not recognize capital gains from the donation and can deduct it on your taxes. In other words, donating your crypto can often reduce your tax burden. Please consult with your tax advisor regarding specific questions about your deductions.

Can I donate anonymously?

Yes, we have an option for donors to submit only an email in order to receive an automatic tax receipt.

Is my donation refundable?

Unfortunately, the National Kidney Foundation will not be able to refund cryptocurrency donations. Please take care before initiating your donation.

What happens to my currency once donated?

Cryptocurrency will be converted to US Dollars to support the mission and programs of the National Kidney Foundation, unless other instructions are in place.

Will you accept more currencies in the future?

At the moment, we are only accepting the cryptocurrencies listed with our Giving Block application above.
