Brian Dugan has always had a passion for helping those in need. Throughout his 40 year career in real estate, he has made it a point to support charity causes at every opportunity. So when he was appointed Senior Director of the Long Island Operations of CB Richard Ellis (CBRE), the global leader in commercial real estate, he was drawn to the company’s newly-established corporate philanthropy program, CBRE Cares. CBRE Cares offers partnerships with three major national charities, including the National Kidney Foundation.
Never having met anyone with kidney disease, Dugan was interested in learning more about the issue, who's affected and what he could do to help. He invited Ingrid Montecino, President of the NKF Serving Greater New York to speak to employees about the NKF and the lives touched by kidney disease. To hear Dugan tell it, "I immediately connected with Ingrid and the couple she brought along who had lost one of their twin babies to kidney failure. I decided that day that I'd be helping raise funds for this cause." He opted to give to the NKF through payroll deductions and made his decision known throughout his office so that other employees might follow his lead.
Beyond encouraging coworkers to support the NKF through the CBRE Cares Employee Giving Program, Dugan signed on to help ensure the success of the NKF Golf Classic held last Spring in Roslyn Harbor. The event scored big and Dugan alone generated $7,500 in donations from friends he recruited as foursomes.
Brian Dugan is one of thousands of CBRE managers around the country who rallied their teams in support of the NKF this year. More than $47,000 was generated through support of NKF Affiliate events by local CBRE offices. The first-year results of the Employee Giving Program through CBRE Cares are still being tabulated, but early estimates indicate that the campaign surpassed all expectations.
As the campaign launches its second year, CBRE Cares’ program motto, “Leading with Heart” continues to be a true expression of the company’s commitment to the responsibility of leadership and to supporting the communities in which employees live and work.
