New York, NY – HM Insurance Group (HM) has renewed its commitment to support the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Golf Classic program throughout the 2016 season, the Foundation announced today. HM has been a National Kidney Foundation corporate partner since 2011, contributing $700,000 in total support including its commitment in 2016.
Through the partnership, HM Insurance Group and the National Kidney Foundation work together to provide help and hope to the 26 million Americans with kidney disease. As one of the leading national carriers of employer stop loss insurance, HM Insurance Group protects employers that self-fund their employees' health insurance by providing financial protection against catastrophic claim costs.
“Kidney disease is among the top catastrophic claim categories at HM,” said Matthew Rhenish, HM Insurance Group president and chief operating officer. “Over the past five years alone, HM has paid more than $135 million in claims related to kidney disease. Raising awareness of kidney disease and supporting prevention and treatment options through our partnership with NKF has the potential to reduce these escalating costs and also enhance the quality of life for kidney disease patients and their families,” added Rhenish.
The National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic, a nationwide series of more than 30 golf tournaments held across the country, is the Premier Amateur Golf Event for Charity. HM Insurance Group will support local events in nine cities, as well as the annual National Finals held in Pebble Beach, California, in January 2017.
New for 2016, HM Insurance Group also will support the NKF Mission Appeal taking place at each NKF Golf Classic event where they will participate, serving to directly fund the NKF’s mission and raise awareness of chronic kidney disease. In addition to HM's corporate support over the last six years, HM regional leadership and their producers have generously raised and provided more than $250,000 in additional funding through the purchase of golf foursomes, local golf sponsorships and other fundraising activities.
In Pittsburgh, where the company is headquartered, HM Insurance Group served as presenting sponsor of the local NKF Golf Classic held recently at Valley Brook Country Club and will again serve as a platinum sponsor of the upcoming Kidney Walk to be held on November 6 at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, with Rhenish, who serves on the Board of Directors for the Alleghenies Chapter, serving as a chairperson for the event. Over the past five years, HM’s employees have raised more than $75,000 through their own efforts in support of the walk.
"The NKF Golf Classic program provides our corporate partners with a turnkey client entertainment program at top golf clubs throughout the U.S., as well as the Pebble Beach Resorts, while at the same time raising $3.5 million each year to help millions of Americans affected by chronic kidney disease," said Kevin Longino, chief executive officer of National Kidney Foundation, and kidney transplant recipient. “We are proud to partner with HM on our common goal of increasing awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease for 73 million Americans at risk for developing the disease and the 26 million already suffering from it,” added Longino.
