National Kidney Foundation Teams Up with ThriveOnline

New York, NY (May 7, 1999) - The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and ThriveOnline announced today the formation of an educational partnership to provide online information on incontinence and other health issues relating to kidney and urinary disease.

"Incontinence is one of those 'unmentionables,' a condition that people find hard to discuss with their doctors, caretakers, and partners," says Wendy Marx, Managing Producer, ThriveOnline. "Yet we know incontinence is on the minds of pregnant women, prostate cancer survivors, baby boomers taking care of elderly parents, and many more. But now patients and their families can request and get accurate information, anonymously if they desire."

More than 10 million Americans suffer from urinary incontinence, or loss of urine control. While this condition is most common in the elderly, it does occur in all age groups, particularly in women who are or have been pregnant. ThriveOnline's incontinence site, developed in conjunction with the National Kidney Foundation's Scientific Advisory Board, offers educational information on causes, treatment options, and available resources for this common, but hardly discussed condition. The site, which can be accessed at or AOL Keyword: incontinence@thrive, is also linked to NKF's Web site which provides educational information on bed-wetting and numerous other kidney and urinary conditions.

Says Joel Kopple, MD, NKF President, "ThriveOnline reaches more people than any other health site online. We are excited by the possibility of bringing much-needed information to millions of patients and families around the world through this collaborative effort."
