National Kidney Foundation Expands Gulf Coast Kidney
New York, NY (September 8, 2005) - The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) has announced its leadership structure for meeting intermediate term needs and for assistance to kidney patients displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The Foundation's focus is on helping dialysis patients maintain access to their life-saving treatment and assisting transplant recipients and chronic kidney disease patients with their special needs.
John Davis, NKF's Chief Executive Officer, announced the selection of a leader to head the foundation's Assistance Task Force, "I am very pleased that one of the National Kidney Foundation's veteran executives has agreed to lead our Gulf Coast Assistance Task Force, which was established during this past week. Preston A. (Tony) Englert, Jr., the CEO of our National Capital area Affiliate and a native of Louisiana, will direct our efforts to assist patients with the crisis they face in their lives and in their kidney disease treatment," says Davis.
"Englert's immediate challenge is to gather information on the status of patients and the assistance they are receiving from Affiliates. He will then coordinate with other groups to meet patient needs without duplicating efforts. Tony will travel to the region next week to personally direct the services that can be offered by the NKF directly or through Affiliates," continues Davis.
The Task Force will coordinate the funds being contributed by the public and corporate donors who seek to support the specific needs of kidney patients through the National Kidney Foundation Patients Hurricane Relief Fund.

"We are very gratified by the terrific cooperation we have seen by everyone involved in helping our patients deal with this disaster. National Kidney Foundation Affiliates, other kidney organizations, the large dialysis organizations and the kidney related industries have all worked hard and closely together on behalf of the people who are suffering," says Davis.
"We are proud and grateful that our Louisiana Affiliate has relocated to Baton Rouge and is working tirelessly to help patients even though the staff has suffered great losses themselves," continues Davis.
The National Kidney Foundation is dedicated to preventing kidney and urinary tract diseases, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation.
