PING to Sponsor National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Golf Classic

New York, NY (January 11, 2007) - A major innovator in the golf equipment world will soon take another swing onto the charitable fairway. PING was named national sponsor of the National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic, "the premier amateur golf event for charity"TM. PING's sponsorship will include support for over 20 local tournaments around the U.S. and contributions to the 2006 National Championship at Pebble Beach, California as well as long-term involvement in '07 and beyond.

According to NKF chairman, Chuck Fruit, “We are honored to team up with PING, a leader in the golf industry. We know that this partnership will enhance the tradition of quality associated with the NKF Golf Classic program while providing an opportunity for the event to grow substantially.”

"As the recipient of kidney transplant, this partnership takes on a very special, personal meaning for me," said PING Chairman & CEO John Solheim, who underwent a kidney transplant in June of 2004. "The work of the National Kidney Foundation has profound effects on thousands of lives every day. PING is proud to associate its name with an organization so dedicated to its cause. Golf brings joy to those who play the game in many ways. The National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic is a perfect example of the good golf brings to our society."

PING designs, manufactures and markets a complete line of golf equipment including metal woods, irons, putters and golf bags. The family-owned company was founded in 1959 in the garage of the late Karsten Solheim, a mechanical engineer with an extensive background in the aerospace and computer industries. His frustration with his putting inspired him to design his own putter, which created a “pinging” sound when striking a golf ball. This sound was the source of the name now synonymous with innovation and quality throughout the world of golf.

Since the NKF Golf program's inception, more than 220,000 golfers have participated in National Kidney Foundation golf tournaments across the U.S., generating more than $70 million to help fight kidney disease. To find the NKF Golf Classic event closest please click here.
