Expands Sponsorship of Kidney Walk Program
New York, NY (March 15, 2013) – Satellite Healthcare has expanded its partnership with the National Kidney Foundation's (NKF) Kidney Walk program , the Foundation announced today.
The partnership will promote kidney disease and risk factor awareness and build on Satellite Healthcare's long-time support of the Foundation. Satellite Healthcare is one of the nation's first not-for-profit providers of dialysis services and kidney disease care.
"Satellite provides excellent patient wellness education, personalized clinical services and dialysis therapy to thousands of patients," said Kim Hernandez, Director of Marketing Communications at Satellite Healthcare. "Another important part of our mission is to work with organizations like the National Kidney Foundation to raise awareness of risk factors and the simple screenings that can help prevent or slow the progression of kidney disease."
As part of the expanded partnership, Satellite Healthcare will become a National Multi‑Market Partner for the Kidney Walk program, with a brand presence nationally and at Kidney Walks taking place in key Satellite Healthcare markets. In addition, Satellite Healthcare will have the opportunity to host a wellness area at these walks. Satellite Healthcare employees will also support the partnership by forming teams and participating in walks in their markets, raising additional funds for the NKF.
The Kidney Walk is a nationwide series of more than 90 community events that call attention to kidney disease and the need for organ donation. More than 100,000 walkers, 6,000 teams and 300,000 donors raise more than $7 million dollars annually to support the NKF's local education and prevention programs.
"The Kidney Walk is not only a fundraiser, but a tool to generate awareness and drive prevention in over 90 major cities and communities throughout the U.S.," said Krystn Kuckelman, the National Walk Program Director for NKF. "Satellite Healthcare's support will help us reach the millions who are at risk of developing kidney disease."
Kidney disease kills more people than breast or prostate cancer each year. One in three American adults — 73 million — is at risk due to high blood pressure, diabetes or a family history of kidney failure. More than 26 million people in the U.S. already have kidney disease and most don't know it.
Through its local offices nationwide, the NKF provides vital patient services and kidney screenings, conducts extensive public and professional education and advocates for patients through legislative action.
"The NKF is on the front lines when it comes to raising awareness of kidney disease and advocating for kidney patients," said Hernandez. "We are proud to partner with the NKF to empower those at risk to take a lifesaving step, whether that means supporting the cause by joining a Kidney Walk, or scheduling a visit to the doctor if they are at risk."
