Questcor Partners with the National Kidney Foundation Kidney Walk
New York, NY (April 17, 2014) - Questcor (NASDAQ:QCOR) was named a National Corporate Partner for the Kidney Walk, the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) announced today.
Through this partnership, Questcor will support more than 85 Kidney Walk events being held in major cities around the country.
"Questcor is very pleased to partner with the National Kidney Foundation as a National Corporate Partner of Kidney Walk," said Steve Cartt, Questcor's Chief Operating Officer. "As a company, we are committed to serving the needs of kidney patients, their families and the healthcare providers who care for them. Our support of the Kidney Walk helps the Foundation serve its mission to raise awareness of kidney disease and to provide lifesaving programs that directly impact kidney patients and their families."
The Kidney Walk is the country's largest walk to fight kidney disease. The nationwide series is comprised of community events that call attention to kidney disease and the need for organ donation. More than 100,000 walkers, 6,000 teams and 300,000 donors raise more than $8 million dollars annually to support the NKF's local awareness, prevention and treatment programs.
"The Kidney Walk is not only a fundraiser, but a tool to generate awareness and drive prevention in major cities and communities throughout the U.S.," said Krystn Kuckelman, the National Walk Program Director. "Questcor's support will help us reach the millions who are at risk of developing kidney disease."
Each year, kidney disease kills more people than breast or prostate cancer. One in three American adults - 73 million - is at risk due to high blood pressure, diabetes or a family history of kidney failure. More than 26 million people in the U.S. already have kidney disease and most don't know it.
"The NKF is on the front lines when it comes to raising awareness of kidney disease and advocating for kidney patients," said Cartt. "Questcor is very proud to support this effort as well as other important initiatives of NKF."
More than 26 Million Americans - 1 in 9 adults - have chronic kidney disease and most don't know it.
73 million American adults are at risk due to high blood pressure, diabetes, age over 60 or a family history of kidney failure.
More than 415,000 people in the United States depend on dialysis treatment to survive.
More than 99,000 Americans currently await a life-saving kidney and 13 will die each day while waiting.
The National Kidney Foundation is the leading organization in the U.S. dedicated to the awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease for hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals, millions of patients and their families, and tens of millions of Americans at risk.
