Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine offers a free camp each summer for children with kidney disease. Family members are welcome. Children ages newborn - 18 years with kidney disease not yet on treatment, on hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, transplant recipients and family members are eligible to attend this residential camp. Older youths are accepted as junior counselors. Activities include swimming, fishing, arcade, mini golf, talent show, costume party, and arts and crafts. The camp is wheelchair accessible and provisions may be made for the visually impaired. Transportation is available from the airport and bus terminals. There is 24-hour medical coverage.

The Ruth Gottscho Foundation Dialysis Camp in the Catskill Mountains, New York offers summer camps for children ages 8-18 with kidney disease. Children may be on dialysis, post-transplant or in chronic kidney failure and must be medically stable, Hep B Surface Antigen negative, and able to walk 200 yards unassisted. Children on peritoneal dialysis must be trained and able to perform CAPD. The camp is not wheelchair accessible and no provisions are made for the visually impaired. Transportation assistance is available from New York and New Jersey. Sessions are planned each summer that include swimming, boating, music, drama, horseback riding, arts and crafts, high adventure and visual arts. Scholarships are available from Ruth Gottscho Kidney Foundation and from NKF of Central New York to help cover the fee.
