Nephrology Nurse & Technician Program

This program will provide the latest information on important topics such as transplantation, treatment options, dialysis chemistries and much more!  Pre-conference courses include Certification Review, Vascular Access, and CKD.   Take this opportunity to network with your colleagues across the entire healthcare team. 

Infection Control: Multiple sessions will explore the complex issues of infection control in the dialysis setting.  Sessions include preventing blood stream infections and dealing with superbugs, pneumonia and hepatitis vaccination, as well as lab management.

QAPI: Attendees will discover key components of a comprehensive QAPI in the dialysis setting.  This includes, but is not limited to regulatory components, root cause analysis, and ways to audit and initiate safety measures, and effective action planning and implementation.

A Patients Perspective: Come hear a patients journey from glomerular nephritis to hemodialysis, both in-center and home, to living-related donor transplant, all while maintaining an active lifestyle as a teacher and soccer coach.  Learn how you can help actively engage your patients in self-care.

Disaster Management: This session will provide strategies for responding to man-made and natural disasters.  This includes formulating a preparedness plan, coordinating with government and community resources, and recovering after a disaster.

Research: Learn about concepts of nursing research, including research types, reading and evaluating studies, conducting your own research, and effectively implementing research and evidence-based practice into daily practice.

An Overview of Government Initiatives: In today’s heavily regulated environment, it is hard to keep up with all of the government mandated initiatives.  In this session, the attendee will learn about QIP, NHSN, Crown-Web, and the 5-star rating system.

Healthcare Systems Management: In recent years there has been a trend of applying business principals such as Lean and Six Sigma in the healthcare environment.  Attendees in this session will learn how to apply some of these principles to their workplace to develop a more efficient, error free workplace.

Water Treatment: Functions and Components: Provides a comprehensive review of the components of a water treatment system, and the importance of an effective monitoring program.

Other Important topics: Updates on anemia management and bone mineral metabolism, assessment and interventions for vascular access, fluid and volume management, treatment options education, a multidisciplinary view of transplantation, and much much more!
