SCM19 is the only nephrology conference focusing on translating science into clinical practice for the interprofessional team. It provides fellows with exposure to various aspects of the field, career development opportunities, mentorship functions, as well as a broad and diverse range of session topics.
SCM19 fellow activities include:
Career Choices in Nephrology
Wednesday, May 8; 6:30pm – 8:30pm
In a friendly and fun "speed networking/mentoring" environment, meet a range of experienced individuals currently active in private practice, academic medicine, and industry. Learn why these individuals decided on their career paths, what they did to secure their jobs, and if (and how) they would do it again if they were starting over. This activity will include a complimentary beer/wine reception with hors d’oeuvres.
Trainee Poster Tour
Friday, May 10; 2:00pm – 3:30pm
Expert faculty will provide trainees with a tour of specially selected posters that highlight the newest advances in nephrology. Trainees will also learn about the research process as well as opportunities to present at national meetings.
Career Advancement for Fellows
Friday, May 10; 4:00pm – 5:30pm
Faculty will discuss how to maximize career advancement opportunities in the field. Topics will include negotiating for leadership roles, career pathways, and much more.
Lunch Workshop: Board Review
Saturday, May 11; 12:00pm – 1:30pm
Led by SCM19 Program Chair Dr. Harold Szerlip, this interactive workshop will engage attendees with board style clinical vignettes ranging from the simple to the more complex. Cases covered will include electrolyte disorders, acid-base disturbances, chronic kidney disease, dialysis and AKI. Lively discussion is guaranteed, and controversy is a possibility. At the end of this workshop attendees will feel more confident in their knowledge and test-taking skills.
