Andrea DeKam has been a nephrology social worker for over 19 years. She completed her MSW at the University of Michigan with an internship at Michigan Medicine in the Kidney Transplant Center. She has been employed at Michigan Medicine, working with in-center hemodialysis patients, since 2003. In 2021, she was recognized as a Social Worker of the Year nominee at Michigan Medicine. She has been an active member of both the national CNSW and her local Michigan CNSW chapter since 2003. She was awarded the CNSW New Worker Award in 2005. She is also a Fellow of the NKF.
Andrea served a combined 14 years on the CNSW Executive Committee in various capacities, including Program Chair; Professional Education Chair; and Chair. She also contributed to the spring clinical program committee and certification board. In her local Michigan CNSW chapter, she has held past positions of Secretary; Symposium Co-Chair; and Chair. She will return to serve another term as MCNSW Chair beginning in 2022. Andrea was awarded the MCNSW New Worker Award in 2004 and the Merit Award in 2012. Over the years, she has participated in various committees, research advisory boards, and NKF events.
