Mr. Kevin Ceckowski is a clinical nephrology social worker and Service Chief for Outpatient Medical Social Work Service at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. This medical center serves our active duty service members, their dependents and retirees. Kevin arrived at Walter Reed in 1991. He has been a nephrology/transplant social worker since 1997. He taught at the Dialysis LPN School about the psychosocial dilemmas facing patients beginning dialysis. He also gave a yearly presentation to new nephrology fellows on the social worker’s role for a kidney transplant evaluation. Kevin has been involved with research on the topic of Palliative Care and issues of Advanced Care Planning and presented three posters on this topic in 2015, 2016 and 2019, at the National Kidney Foundation Spring Clinical Meetings. He has published in the Journal of Nephrology Social Work on how social workers provide advance care planning support to physicians. He served on the NKF Spring Clinical Meetings as Chair and Co-Chair of the Social Work Program for five years. He is currently on the Council of Nephrology Social Work Certification Committee. He has been a field instructor for graduate student interns coming through his Medical Center’s training program. He received his MSW degree in 1991 from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
